1. About Ti-Ratana

Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society is a network of Buddhist community centres offering education, welfare activities, Dhamma talks, pūjā services, and community services across Theravāda, Mahāyāna and Vajrayāna traditions with a non-sectarian lens. A potential label would be Humanistic Buddhism.

What is Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society?
Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society is a Buddhist community organisation in Malaysia with centres and temples where children, youths, adults and seniors gather for Buddhist education, Dhamma talks, pūjā, youth activities, welfare activities and community service.

What does “Ti-Ratana” mean?

"Ti-Ratana" means "Triple Gem" or "Three Jewels" in the Pali Language.

Who is the Founder and Advisor of Ti-Ratana?
Most Venerable Datuk Dr. K. Sri Dhammaratana Nayaka Maha Thero is Buddhist Monk who is the incumbent Buddhist Chief High Priest of Malaysia, Founder and Advisor of Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society and Ti-Ratana Welfare Society.

Is Ti-Ratana only Theravāda, Mahāyāna, or Vajrayāna?
Ti-Ratana works with Buddhist practices and communities across traditions, while remaining broadly Buddhist and non-sectarian. Ti-Ratana’s approach may also be described as community-oriented or Humanistic Buddhism, as our work emphasises Buddhist education, compassion, welfare, youth development, public service and the application of Dhamma in daily life.

Can non-Buddhists visit Ti-Ratana?
Yes, subject to all relevant laws and regulations. Ti-Ratana serves beyond differences and serves everyone unconditionally.

Is Ti-Ratana a temple, society, school, welfare organisation, or community centre?
Different branches have different functions. Some are Buddhist temples or Vihāras, some are Buddhist community centres, some offer Dhamma school, youth or educational programmes. Ti-Ratana Welfare Society is a separately registered sister organisation managing and providing all the Welfare services provided by Ti-Ratana Group.

2. Ti-Ratana Group, Buddhist Society, and Welfare Society

Is Ti-Ratana Welfare Society the same as Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society?
No. Ti-Ratana Welfare Society is a separately registered sister organisation. It focuses on welfare homes and charitable work, while Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society focuses on Buddhist religious, educational and community activities.

What is Ti-Ratana Group?
Ti-Ratana Group is the collective public-facing name used to describe the Ti-Ratana family of Buddhist and welfare organisations founded or advised by Most Ven. Datuk Dr. K. Sri Dhammaratana. Some centres are legally separate organisations. Please refer to each centre’s official details before making donations or enquiries.
 

Can I donate clothes, furniture, food, or household items?
Ti-Ratana Welfare Society is the only Ti-Ratana Group centre with the capacity and need to take clothing donations, because the other branches are Buddhist temples, places of worship, Buddhist community centres or community institutions. Food and household items are welcomed to be offered as Dana to the Buddhist Society's branches or Sangha. Prior to making any donations, kindly please contact the respective branch or centre.

Are donation accounts shared between branches?
Please donate only strictly through the official account or channel listed for the specific branch, project, or society.

3. Branches, centres, and historical projects

What are the current Ti-Ratana branches and centres?

As of 6th June 2026, our active branches of Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society include Ti-Ratana Bangsar; Ti-Ratana Lumbini Garden in Puchong; Ti-Ratana Penchala in Petaling Jaya; Ti-Ratana Vihara in Aman Perdana, Klang; Ti-Ratana Cheras @ Ti-Ratana Sukha Dhamma School in Taman Bukit Anggerik, Cheras and Ti-Ratana Heights in Seri Kembangan and Serdang. Ti-Ratana Sanctuary Bentong in Pahang is still under construction and not open to the public yet. Ti-Ratana Welfare Society is a separately registered sister organisation with a separate website running a cluster of welfare homes in Salak South Baru (Desa Petaling), Kuala Lumpur.

Is Ti-Ratana Nusajaya / 华藏觉苑 still active?
Ti-Ratana Nusajaya / 华藏觉苑 appears in older online records from around 2011. It is not currently listed as an active Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society branch on our official Branches & Centres directory. For current branch information, please refer to this website.

Is Ti-Ratana Kepong still active?

Ti-Ratana Kepong has not been open since 2022, and is no longer active. 

I found an old Ti-Ratana page online. Is it still valid?
Some older pages, blogs, social media posts, maps listings, or third-party references may remain online. Please use ti-ratana.org and the official branch or section subdomains as the current source of information for Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society, ti-ratana.org.my for Ti-Ratana Welfare Society and tiratana.org.lk for Ti-Ratana Sri Lanka.

Is Ti-Ratana Sri Lanka part of the Malaysian Buddhist Society?
No, it is not. Ti-Ratana Sri Lanka is run by an independent sister organisation in Sri Lanka.

Do all branches have the same opening hours?
No. As of 6th June 2026, for Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society: Ti-Ratana Bangsar is open on weekdays from 9am - 5pm and selected Sundays; Ti-Ratana Cheras is only open on selected weekends; Ti-Ratana Penchala, Petaling Jaya is only open during Dhamma Talks, Dana and Alms events; Ti-Ratana Lumbini Garden, Puchong opens Tuesday to Sunday 9am - 6pm, with Full Moon and New Moon hours until 10pm; Ti-Ratana Vihara, Aman Perdana, Klang is open daily from 6am - 9pm; and Ti-Ratana Heights at Seri Kembangan and Serdang is open daily from 7am - 10pm. Our sister organisation Ti-Ratana Welfare Society's office is open daily from 9am - 6pm.

4. Visiting a Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society branch

Can I visit without being Buddhist?

Yes, subject to local laws and regulations.

Do I need to register before visiting?

There is currently no pre-registration requirement to visit branches of Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society during standard operating hours as of 6th June 2026. Previous requirements may have been set in place during the Covid-19 pandemic, but they have since been lifted. Certain individual events, workshops and classes may still require pre-registration.

What should I wear to a Buddhist temple or centre?

At Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society, visitors and devotees are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing. The only restriction is that the lack of clothing (nudity) is not allowed. 

Can I bring children?

Yes, children are allowed at all our premises. Kindly take note that children and minors are the responsibility of their parents and/or guardians.

Can I bring pets?
Ti-Ratana Lumbini Garden, Ti-Ratana Heights and Ti-Ratana Cheras are pet-friendly. Ti-Ratana Heights and Ti-Ratana Lumbini Garden require pets to be on a leash, carrier, or stroller, and to be toilet-trained as well as dewormed. Ti-Ratana Cheras requires appointments for pets to be made in advance. Please note that there are rescue animals residing at Ti-Ratana Cheras and Ti-Ratana Heights.

Is parking available?

All Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society branches have a limited number of parking lot bays, as most of our branches are located in urban areas, with the exception of Ti-Ratana Heights and the upcoming Ti-Ratana Sanctuary Bentong.

Can I take photos or videos?

Yes, please feel free to take photos and videos. You are encouraged to tag us on social media as well.

Can I attend  Puja or Prayers if I do not understand the chanting?

Yes, you can attend Puja or Prayers even if you do not understand the chanting. English, Mandarin Chinese, Baba Malay and Sinhala versions of most texts are available as well apart from the original texts in Pali, Sanskrit or Tibetan.

Can I meet or consult a monk or nun (Sangha)?
Yes. Walk-ins are accepted, and appointments are available to meet the monks or nuns. You may also request to meet our Sangha online via Zoom or Google Meet. All meetings and consults with our Sangha are free of charge. Donations are welcome.

5. Buddhist education and Dhamma programmes

Ti-Ratana Institute of Buddhist Studies offers free educational and developmental programmes for all ages, offers certificates and certificate-level programmes, and notes that some programmes do not issue certificates. It also says the Institute is not a school, college or university.

Are Ti-Ratana Institute of Buddhist Studies courses free?

Yes, all of the courses at the Ti-Ratana Institute of Buddhist Studies are free. 

Do all courses provide certificates?

Not all courses provide certificates.

Is Ti-Ratana Institute of Buddhist Studies a school, college, or university?

No, it is a Buddhist community led outreach programme and Dhamma Education initiative.

Where are classes held?
Online and in-person at Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society branches.

Can adults join Buddhist classes?

Yes, adults can join our Buddhist classes. We also have Sutta Study classes as well.

Can children join Sunday Dhamma School?

Yes, children, teens and adults are all welcome to join.

Are classes available in English, Mandarin, Malay, or other languages?
This differs from branch to branch.

6. Activities, pūjā, Dhamma talks, and festivals

What activities does Ti-Ratana offer?
Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society offers various Buddhist religious services for the Buddhist community including Dhamma talks, Sutta Study sessions, Theravada Pūjā (Prayers), Mahayana Chanting (Prayers), Vajrayana Chanting (Prayers), Taking Refuge Ceremonies, Meditation Classes, Dhamma School Classes, Buddhist Arts and Music Classes and more. All religious services are offered free of charge. Donations are welcome. Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society also has the Ti-Ratana Youth Buddhist Section operating mainly from Ti-Ratana Lumbini Garden, Puchong as its Youth arm. Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society also conducts some Buddhist activities fully online and we also broadcast some of our activities and content online via live stream or via our social media and website platforms in written form, spoken form, PDF files and eBooks and in various video and photo formats.

 

Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society also offers non-religious classes like Yoga Classes, Visual Arts Classes, Food Bank Services (via Ti-Ratana Meals on Wheels at Ti-Ratana Penchala, Petaling Jaya), blood bank donations and various other activities promoting a service for a healthy society amongst other community services. Some events and classes may require pre-registration.

What services does Ti-Ratana offer?
Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society offers various Buddhist religious blessings, house blessings, car blessings, blessings for exams or academics, blessings for newborns and births, blessings for marriage and couples (Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society does not perform registration of marriages for Buddhists, we only do religious blessings and prayers for Buddhists), blessings for families and communities, blessings for businesses, house blessings, blessings for cars and vehicles as well as funeral and memorial prayers and transference of merits to the departed. All services are offered on a voluntary donate-as-you-wish basis. Some services may require appointments to be made in advance.

Which Buddhist Festivals does Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society observe?

This differs by branch. Generally, all Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society branches observe Chinese New Year / Vietnamese New Year / Korean New Year in the early part of the year, various Southeast Asian New Years (Sinhala, Tamil, Burmese, Laotian, Siamese, Tibetan, etc.) and Qing Ming Pattidana (sharing of merits) for the Departed in April, Wesak in May or June, Entry to Vassa (rainy season retreat for Sangha) in July, Ullambana Pattidana (sharing of merits) for the Departed and Petas (hungry ghosts) in July or August and Kathina (Offering of robes and requisites to the Sangha) in October or November. Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society also actively participates in nationwide, statewide and community events with other Buddhist organisations and also supports interfaith harmony by contributing to interfaith events and community work.

Does Ti-Ratana have Annual Wesak Float Processions?

Yes, Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society has Annual Wesak Float Processions. Each year, our Cheras, Klang and Puchong branches organise Wesak Float Processions in their local areas of Taman Bukit Anggerik, Cheras; Aman Perdana, Klang and Bandar Puteri, Puchong respectively. Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society works together with Ti-Ratana Welfare Society for these community events, and also jointly organise an annual float procession at Desa Petaling (Salak South Baru). Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society floats also take part in the Annual Wesak Day Float Processions that go through Kuala Lumpur City Centre on Wesak Day. 

Are activities the same at every branch?
No, availability differs by branch due to space and branch conditions.

Yes, provided your voluntary task does not displace someone who would otherwise have been paid for the task.

8. Welfare aid and Bersama Rakyat

I need welfare help. Who should I contact?

Ti-Ratana Bersama Rakyat. It is a joint venture between Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society and Ti-Ratana Welfare Society initiated during the pandemic and is still running as of 6th June 2026.

Does Ti-Ratana help only Buddhists?
No, Ti-Ratana helps everyone as Ti-Ratana looks beyond differences and serves everyone unconditionally.

How do I donate to Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society?

Donations are accepted via DuitNow Transfer, Bank Transfer and Cash. Selected Branches offer Duitnow QR, Debit Card, Credit Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and GrabPay via Stripe or iPay88 at the Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society donation portal site.

How do I donate to Ti-Ratana Welfare Society?

Please visit the Ti-Ratana Welfare Society website for further information as it is a separately registered sister organisation.

Can I get an official receipt?

Yes. Donations made via the Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society donation portal site will have an instant automatic receipt sent to you. All other donation methods require issuance of manually processed receipts and may take some time. 

Are donations tax-exempted?
No, donations are not tax-exempted.
